As usual, there is always plenty to do along the Alabama Gulf Coast. In fact, this month brings a number of festivals to the area, ranging from hot air balloon festivals to wine festivals and concerts. Here is a look at just a few of the festivals you can enjoy on the Alabama Gulf Coast in May!

Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival

Presented by Tanger Outlets, the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival welcomes more than 30 hot air balloonists from around the country each year. At the fun and colorful event, festivalgoers enjoy the opportunity to see the floating works of art float through the morning sky. Later, they can get an up close and personal look at the balloons and the pilots, who light up the balloons at night to create a beautiful glow.

In addition to the balloons, the festival also offers free entertainment, including live music, shows presented by the Disc Connected K-9 World Famous Frisbee Dog Show and a carnival. The show will also offer the opportunity to purchase goods from a variety of local crafters, artisans and retailers, while tasty food ranging from homemade ice cream to BBQ plates will also be available.

The Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place May 5 and 6 from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm at 18507 U.S. 98 in Foley. Admission is free.

During the event, the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra will present their annual Mother’s Day Garden Concert, allowing participants to enjoy lovely music while in the beautiful surroundings of the gardens. The cost of the concert is included in the cost of general admission, which is $13 for adults, $7.50 for ages 5-12 and free to members and those below the age of 5.

Bellingrath Gardens will also be hosting its Wiggle Waggle 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run this month. Food and beverages will be provided for runners and a yoga instructor will be onsite to lead post-race stretching.
