From Kids Nights to Fourth of July celebrations, a number of family-friendly events will be taking place in the Alabama Gulf Coast region over the next month. Here is a look at just a few that you might want to explore.
Kids Night at the Wharf
Every Wednesday until August 9th is Kids Night at the Wharf. Taking place from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, Kids Night offers a safe environment for kids to enjoy activities such as face painting, games, prizes, music, a bouncy house and water slides. Some of the upcoming themed nights include:
- June 7: “The Magic Poodles” Show
- June 21: Pirate Night
- July 19: Turtle Night (featuring giant turtles)
- August 2: Cow Night (featuring mini cows)
Kids Night takes place at Palm Plaza, which is located at 23101 Canal Road in Orange Beach. Admission to the event is free, though activity prices range from $5 to $10.
Sea, Sand and Stars
Starting June 5th, the Science and Nature Center will return with its Sea, Sand and Stars activities from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Some of the features of the Science and Nature Center include a 5,800-gallon saltwater aquarium, a 1,500-gallon marine life touch tank and an 800-foot nature boardwalk with outdoor classrooms, a library, a microscope lab, a planetarium and a gift shop.
The Science and Nature Center is located at Orange Beach Elementary School at 4900 S. Wilson Boulevard in Orange Beach. The event will continue to take place every Monday through Thursday until June 29th. A $4 per person minimum donation is recommended.
Fort Morgan Events
Fort Morgan will host Tuesday Evening Civil War Tours every Tuesday through the month of June from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The tours include demonstrations of Civil War small arms drill as well as the firing of one of the fort’s artillery pieces. It also features historical interpreters telling about the lives of the soldiers during the fort’s most turbulent years.
Fort Morgan will host a Salute to American Independence on July 1st from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. The event will feature living history staff celebrating American’s Independence through weapons demonstrations, firing artillery and special tours.
Both events take place at Fort Morgan, which is located a 110 Highway 180 W. in Gulf Shores. Tour prices are $5 per person, with those who are 6 and under admitted for free. The price of admission to the fort, which is $7 per adult, is the cost for attending the Salute to American Independence.
Independence Day Celebration at The Wharf
Independence Day will be celebrated at The Wharf on July 3rd from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Throughout the event, Main Street will feature a number of activities for kids while also providing a great place to enjoy watching the fireworks display. The Spectra the Sound and Light Spectacular shows will take place immediately following the fireworks display, which will take place at approximately 8:45 pm.
The Independence Day Celebration will take place at The Wharf, located at 23101 Canal Road in Orange Beach. Admission is free, while the cost of kid’s activities ranges from $5 to $10. Planned activities will include a surf simulator, a bouncy house, a trampoline jumper, animals, face painting, a hula hoop artist, games and prizes.
